Historic Downtown Wilson shared this link today on their facebook page writing, "Is the investment in revitalizing Historic Downtown Wilson working? Spend a few minutes with Kimberly Van Dyk, the City of Wilson Director of Planning and Community Revitalization, while she shares the positive changes over the last eighteen months and answers a lot of the questions you may have. #downtownturnaround"
We are proud to be a part of this successful effort. Those who have commented with a personal perspective that 'nothing is happening' in Downtown must not have traveled there in the past year especially.
We encourage every resident of Wilson to take the time to come Downtown. Visit the new retail and restaurants on Nash Street (Bill's Grill, Lovely Interiors, Say Yum, and look in the window of the old Wilson Hardware Store and see the work on the soon to open candy manufacturing business). Find Big Harold's and Tig's Courtyard. Check out the restoration of the original locations of Worrall's Seafood and the High Dollar Warehouse on Goldsboro. Look in the window of the site of the recently closed Beer Store to see the work being done to reopen the site as Downtown Public House, a Craft Beer and Wine tasting room and bottle shop.
We at 217 Brew Works invite you to experience a true Community Brewery. We are not a nightclub, tavern, or bar, but provide a space for Live Music (you might want to check out Open Mic Night every Monday night) or Live Music and Food Trucks (both local and out of town), on alternate Friday and Saturdays. Take some time from 6 till 8pm on the first Sunday of every Month and share in our Pot Luck Dinner hosted by local residents. We offer the only locally made craft beer and 100% natural sodas (made on site). When ever you visit our brewery bring your kids and your dog. Let the kids and dogs run free outside in our fenced 1/2 acre garden.
And the site of the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is directly across the street. Come and see the more than 20 Whirligigs that have already been placed in the park. Sit inside or outside and watch the actual work being done to make the November 2, 2017 Grand Opening of park.
We sincerely hope you will take the time to experience for yourself exactly what is actually happening to bring back the Culture and History of this wonderful city.
We were happy to participate last weekend as a watering station for Walk for the Fix to benefit For the Love of Dogs, a local no kill shelter.
For the Love of Dogs is a non profit no-kill organization made up of volunteers who are committed to the humane treatment of dogs. Their goal is to educate people on the proper care and treatment of dogs and to help dogs in their care find their forever home. We were so happy to support their fundraising effort.
